Mission: Mission 0 - Christening of Legacy and Crew Arrival
Location: Sickbay
Timeline: 2261.184 1100

Lieutenant Steffan Haas walked into Legacy’s medical bay. He wanted to get his first Legacy medical out of the way. The Doctor on his last ship pestered him to the point of almost punching him in the chin. It’s true, he did knock at Haas’ quarters at oh eight hundred hours after a heavy night of drinking and poker playing with a few of his colleagues. He looked around looking for the chief medical officer.

Dr. Jane Sinclair was busy reviewing the contents of the ship’s trauma kits when she saw the young man enter her domain. She set her notepad down next to the kits and went to greet him. She smiled widely, checking his sleeves for a rank insignia. “Good morning, Lieutenant. I’m Jane Sinclair, Chief Medical Officer.”

“Ah, you’re the person I’m here to see. Lieutenant Staffen Haas, reporting for my Legacy medical.” Haas said with a smile.

“Well then, please follow me,” Jane said. She turned and walked to the nearest biobed. “Now lie down here and I’ll do the initial scan. Do you have anything specific you want to report? Any symptoms you’ve been feeling lately?”

Haas hopped up on to the bed and laid down. “Nope, as far as I’m aware I’m fit as a fiddle.” He said as he made himself comfortable.

Taking out a medical tricorder, she began to scan him for anything unusual. “When did you come aboard, Mr. Haas? Or may I call you Steffan?”

Haas felt very uncomfortable with everyone keep wanting to refer to him by his given name. Had he fallen into a different timeline since reporting on board or was just everyone on this ship nice? “Err, Steffan is fine. I reported on board yesterday evening but it was getting late, hence why I’m here now.”

“Not a problem,” Jane told him. “I didn’t have to go hunting for you, so you’re starting off in my good books.” She smiled warmly at him. “I’m thinking you’re an athletic type, Steffan. Any sports injuries? Broken bones or torn ligaments I’ll need to watch out for? Tell me now or the next test may be rough.”

“If I’m honest the CMO on my last ship wouldn’t leave me alone until I got my medical done. I thought I’d get it out the way and save the agro for both of us.” Haas replied with a warm smile. “I used to play rugby when I was younger, broken the odd bone here and there nothing that causes me any problems now.”

Jane nodded. "That's consistent with what I'm seeing here. You've healed well, but there's evidence of a few breaks in the past." Jane set the tricorder down on a nearby desk. "Let's get to the heart stress test." She pointed to the nearby wall, where a biobed sat in front of a pair of mechanical steps on the wall. "Strip to your skivvies and lie down on your back, feet on the pedestals. There's a curtain for privacy. Let me know when you're ready. She moved away from Steffan to upload the tricorder data to their database and take a few notes.

“Well, you certainly do a good medical check.” Haas said as he hoped off the bed and pulled the curtain around. He was wasn’t fused what the Doctor saw, it was her job after all and he had nothing to hide. But she obviously stated the curtain was there for a reason so he used it. Once down to his underwear he pulled the curtain open. He then climbed back onto the bed and got himself into position.

Jane smiled again as she approached. “The curtain was for your privacy from others in sickbay while half naked, Steffan. Not to shield me from the act of undressing. We can close it if you like? Otherwise let’s begin.”

“I’m fine as it is, Doctor.” Haas replied before starting to use the mechanical steps to get his heart rate up. “Is this your first Constitution Class vessel you’ve served on?” He asked, making some small talk.

"Yes, it is," Jane replied cordially, keeping up the small talk, from behind her console, looking at the results. "I'm going to slowly increase the resistance. Keep going, and try to go a bit faster. I served on Ohio-class USS Pascal for a number of years. Very briefly on Starbase One. And I did a few short stints on Earth and various colonies; month-long deployments to help give colonists and their farm animals thorough checkups. How about you? First Constitution? Where else have you served?"

“I’m popping my Constitution cherry like you. I’ve also served on the Agamemnon which was a Kelvin class and the Colossus which was an Armstrong Class.” Haas replied as he picked up the pace. “Sounds like you’ve had a varied career so far.”

“I try,” Jane said. “I grew up on Vega Colony. We’re well developed, but so many Federation colony worlds aren’t. It’s very rewarding to beam down to a planet, help vaccine kids, make sure they can feed themselves.” Steffan’s readings were coming in nicely. “Keep it up, just a bit longer. So why are you in Starfleet, Steffan? What do you want to do with this life?”

“It sounds very rewarding.” Haas commented as he continued his workout. “I’d like to move into the diplomatic corp, maybe even take on an Ambassador role.”

“I’ve never met an Ambassador before,” Jane mused. “But maybe I’ve just given a physical to the future Federation Ambassador to...Qo’noS?” She checked the console readings. “Okay, I’ve got what I need. You can stop now.” She grabbed a nearby towel and handed it to him. “For any sweat.”

Haas stopped and slowly sat himself up. He took the towel, giving the Doctor a nod of gratitude, before wiping his sweaty brow. “I can think of worse places to be an Ambassador. Qo’nos would suit me quite well.” He said as he continued to dry himself off. “What’s the prognosis, Doc?”

She suddenly looked very grim. "Bad news, Lieutenant," she said. "Keep this lifestyle up and you'll only get at most another...century?" She smiled. "You're in fine shape, Steffan. Keep up what you're doing. I'm told we have quite a few athletes aboard, and the Captain loves competitive sports. So you should have no problem finding people to continue sporting with."

“I think I’ll leave the competitive sports alone. I’m more of a poker player now. Less bones get broken in that sport.” Haas replied with a smirk. “May I get back into my uniform again, Doctor?”

Jane giggled a bit. “Yes, of course. Sorry, I should’ve said something earlier. Let me know if you organize a poker game; I’d love to join in. But until then, you’re free to go. It was nice meeting you.”

Steffan grabbed his uniform, “I’ll see if I can get something arranged. It was a pleasure to meet you too, Doctor.”
