743 words; about a 4 minute read

Mission: Mission 1 - Klingons on Starboard Bow
Location: Bridge
Timeline: 2261.189 2125

With a nod, Ayden look over his shoulder. "Do it, Glenn. Let me know if anything comes up. In the meantime..." he hit the com on the arm of the chair. "Bridge to Jackson. Ma'am, you might want to get up here, we've just intercepted something I think you should see."

Cindy answered, "We're on our way." Dismissing her Chiefs with their appointed tasks, she arrived on the bridge and asked the Lieutenant, "What is it that you have to show me?"

Looking over as the Captain came to the bridge, Ayden let out a heavy sigh and hit a button to bring up the image on the screen before turning to look at it. "That. I've got Glenn running an analysis to see if we can find maybe who they are, but...I don't recognize them."

Ensign T'Peal, a Vulcan said, "I have a theory ma'am."

Cindy looked at the Ensign and said, "Go ahead."

"If you will notice the similarities in the picture and myself? I theorize that those Vulcans who left and embraced their emotions are those people. I believe that they are Romulans."

Cindy asked, "Romulans? What would they be doing here? Or risking breaching a peace that has lasted for...."

Ayden's eyes went wide. "Romulans? But.." He looked back to the viewscreen. "Why would that show up here? I don't understand." Command all this type of thing was not his strong suit my any means, he was an engineer.

T'Peal pointed out, "The Romulan neutral zone is not far from K-4."

"I am more concerned about the technology that they have," Cindy told T'Peal and Ayden concerned. "How do we defeat something like that? If they have an entire fleet of these sorts of ships, they could just slip behind Federation lines and decimate what's left of our fleet."

Cindy flopped down in the Captain's chair and thought out loud, "Phil would tell me to look at all the angles. If they had a great deal of these ships, why just take out the outposts? Why not just attack Starfleet directly? Would it not stand to reason that this may be a prototype? Or there must be some limitations?" She looked at Ayden, as if expecting some sort of contribution.

"We've never run across that type of technology. We wouldn't have any system setup, across all of Starfleet, to track a ship that can't be seen. Gives us no time to mount a defense, and we don't have enough on our scans of them to be able to even try." Ayden rubbed his forehead.

"Ma'am, I agree with the prototype assessment. They are taking out what they know wouldn't normally be defended by sneaking up on them."

Neza looked over, having heard a little about Romulans but she was fresh out of the Academy for the most part. "Commander, our sensors can't penetrate that thing. We have maybe ten seconds of sensor data, if that. Enough to know it can pack a wallop..."

"We have to find away around it," Cindy replied determined. "Can you extrapolate the time it takes for that weapon to charge by the times of destruction of K-6 and maybe 4 and 5?

"Errr.." Neza stated as she turned back to her controls. "I can try. Much as I hate to say it, it'd be better with more data. I'll do what I can."

Ayden still stared at the screen, looking deep in thought.

"Bec and Hawk are working on something but any other thoughts would be appreciated."

Nodding, Ayden still looked deep in thought. He was trying to sort out the engineering side of all of this in his head. He then moved over to where Neza was and looked over what she had pulled up from the station destructions, before looking over her should at Cindy. "Do we have actual video by chance of any of the destructions?"

"Yes, the last one from K-6, that we all witnessed should be on tape."

Neza raised an eyebrow, "What're you thinking, Lieutenant?"

"I need to watch it..unfortunately over and over again...figure out if I can gauge the timing of that weapon. Our sensors can only tell us so much. But actually watching it might let me run the timings where there might be a weakness we can use against them." Ayden shrugged. "Worth a try anyways."

"Do it!" Cindy responded, hoping that the rest of her officers were having more luck at their tasks.
