With a sigh, Naryi Avonavi placed her belongings on the bed of her quarters.

In truth, Naryi didn't wish to be on the Legacy. Not that she had any particular reason to find her new assignment less than palatable. But Naryi had been on the McCalla since she had graduated from the Academy. She had survived Nero and countless other threats to the Federation on the McCalla. She had formed bonds on the McCalla. And she hadn't been ready to leave the McCalla.

She didn't plan to stay on the McCalla forever. In a few years, she would have gladly taken a spot like Chief Engineer on the Legacy. After a few more years of seasoning on the McCalla.

But Nero had left Starfleet decimated. And, at least 'on paper', Naryi was probably one of the most qualified engineers in the Fleet who wasn't already committed to a starship's Chief Engineer spot.

Naryi mentally sighed. It was as the Ancient Earth philosopher Thales once said: ""Necessity is the strongest of things, for it rules everything." And necessity required her to leave the McCalla.

Well, there was nothing to be done about it, save to get her things stored in her new quarters and then meet her new Commanding Officer. With an air of resignation, Naryi began unpacking.
