809 words; about a 4 minute read

Mission: Mission 0 - Christening of Legacy and Crew Arrival
Location: Sickbay
Timeline: 2261.184 1000

Nadia was standing out of sickbay finding this part of joining Starfleet insanely tedious. Someone's personal health shouldn't be taken lightly but for Nadia it was just another tedious thing. So here she was standing outside of the med bay walking in she stopped a passing med technician. "Who do I ask about a physical?"

"There's Doctor Zeldani," replied the technician. He had gestured over to a Deltan woman in a labcoat, who was clearly in the middle of another physical. He then found himself staring at the Deltan, needing to force himself to look away. "And there's our chief medical officer, Doctor Dering," he said, directing her over to Cole, who was going over a chart with another one of the medical personnel. "Nice guy," the tech smiled to her before walking away.

"Either well be fine." Nadia said just wanting to get this over with shaking her head and letting out a slight growl, "....ug ugh...." She groaned placing a hand against her forehead. "Do you have a doctor room I can lie down in. I can feel a migraine coming on."

Suddenly a arm went carefully around her from behind, and started lightly guiding her towards a bio bed. It was Cole and he looked very concerned. "Over here, Ensign," he said, his voice gentle, "I'm Doctor Cole Dering, and I'm going to take care of you."

Nadia nodded, "....th this isn't the first time doctor. I I have been dealing with them since I've been a child.' She added at least giving the doctor this wasn't a new occurrence.

"Alright..and what's your name?" he asked, helping her up onto the bed.

"Nad Nadia Jiaying." Nadia said simply glad to be out of the harsh light.

While she spoke he had motioned for a nurse to come over. "Okay, Nadia, I want you to lay here in lateral position." He assisted until she was lying prone on her side, her head ending up on a small and flat, yet appropriate pillow. Then as he picked up a medical tricorder, he ordered the nurse to get Nadia's patient file . "I'm going to get a few readings before giving you something to take away the pain," he said quietly down to her.

Laying on her side Nadia just nodded but stopped shortly as that exasperated the pain while adding nausea. "I I feel l like I am gonna throw up.'

"We'll take care of that," Cole told her. A quick moment later, a vomit basin was held up to her, and a hypo spray was placed up to her neck. It's contents were released and she was told, "That should help with the nausea."

Her patient file handed to him, Cole continued with the scan. A moment later he was placing a stool along side the biobed where he sat so she could see him. After double checking a hypo, he placed it along side her neck and released its contents. "This is for the pain," he said gently and went back to watching her readings as the medication took effect and then looked up to her. "One of my technicians told me you seemed to be fine when you first walked in. Do these headaches always come out of nowhere?"

"It wasn't exactly nowhere," Nadia said glad for the medication. ".....I was doing a lot of reading before coming in for my physical. Usually that's when I get them but they are usually faster to come on this one was an oddity."

Soaking in the information, Cole nodded. He then decided, "I'm going to be diving more into your medical history and do some research, see if we can figure out what's been going on and why it's changed. In the meantime, I want you to lie here for another 30 minutes. If you continue to respond well to the medication, I'll clear you for duty, but with a promise from you that you'll return for some exploratory test within the next couple of days."

"I can do that," Nadia said simply reaching for her bag, "....also these are my glasses I've been wearing glasses since age 5 or 6."

Cole raised an eyebrow, "These very same glasses? Have your other doctors been aware of this?"

"No no......I've been wearing these for about 3 months I've been wearing glasses since I was 5 or 6." Nadia said clarifying.

"Ah," Cole lightly laughed, shaking his head, "I should have caught that. Well, it should be in your file, but thank you for bringing it up." He got out of his seat, still looking at her intently. "Now remember, get some rest and...I'll be checking up on you later."

Nadia just nodded as she got comfortable and closed her eyes trying to get as comfortable as she could in a infirmary which was not as easy as one might think.
