Mission: Mission 2 - Love ORION Mistaken
Location: Brig

Jane was pacing in her cell. Her mind continued to run in every direction as she considered the new information brought to her by Neza. The Captain relieved her of duty for the day? Everyone was acting so strangely! She needed to get out of the cell, but wasn't sure how. The guards weren't going to leave her alone, and it's not like she was some expert escape artist. She needed to bide her time. But she also couldn't quiet her mind. Vivyra was out there and needed her. The ship was going crazy with lust and animalism. Someone could get hurt. She needed her freedom to stop it.

The door to the brig area opened and Jane spotted a familiar face and attractive tall frame. "Captain! Captain!" she started bouncing and tapping the forcefield manically.

Cindy smiled at Jane when she came in. "Jane, settle down. You're going to hurt yourself on the forcefield if you're not careful." She took a relaxed posture, shook her long, platinum blonde hair back behind her shoulders and asked, "How are you doing in here?"

"Me? Oh I'm fine," Jane said, her voice fast and energized. "Fine fine fine. Lovely day in the brig, it is. But I'm sure it's better outside, so you're going to let me out, yeah?"

"No, I'm not going to let you out, Jane." Cindy shook her head sadly. "And I am pretty sure that you know the reason why."

“Oh please,” Jane said bitterly. “I’m in here because I defended the woman I love from five of your crew, loitering around her quarters ready to pounce the instant they saw her. Predators, they were. I do something brave and heroic and get thrown in here for it, while your ship is filled with those who would do God knows what to an innocent soul like Vivyra. They’re running free while I’m locked in here.” Her tone betrayed her growing anger. Her green eyes were staring directly into Cindy’s.

Cindy stared back, her eyes widening from the shock value of Jane's demeanor. "And the incident in the mess?"

"Incident?" Jane asked. "Oh, that. For that, please put yourself in my position. The ship has a guest on it, who is small, physically unimposing, and by virtue of how she was raised very innocent. She leaves a busy room, and you see crewmen, lustful, animalistic looks in their eyes, start to go after her. What do you do? Because I'll tell you what I did. I put a stop to it. I realized that if they had the slightest bit of Starfleet in them, they'd react and stop dead in their tracks. And then I taught one a lesson, because that's how you maintain discipline on a ship. Not like you'd know."

Cindy's mouth opened, then closed. It opened again and no words came out. She paused for several awkward moments before closing it and saying, "Jane, I am very worried about you. Right now, by rights, I should be starting a court martial proceeding against you. Please don't push that button. I am hoping that something foreign is effecting you, so we can clear you of this trouble."

"The only things affecting me are love, devotion to the ship, and annoyance that I'm being stopped from helping!" She angrily punched the forcefield. "Let me out, Captain. I need to see Vivyra. I need to keep her safe. I need to hold her. I need to touch her. I need to kiss her. Please let me out." Her breathing was getting ragged.

"Something is clearly wrong with you," Cindy told Jane plainly. "You need to get control over yourself. Until then, you will stay there. I'm sorry, Jane."

Jane’s anger had been palpable, but suddenly a great sadness washed over her, softening her expression. “Please, Cindy. If you won’t let me out then let me see Vivyra? Ask her to come visit?”

"I will consider it, Jane," Cindy replied after some hesitation. "In the meantime, I am delivering Vivyra into hands that I believe will be quite safe."

“‘Delivering’ her into someone’s hands?” Jane asked. “She’s not a commodity to be controlled, or a threat. Why can’t you let her come and visit me? I have the right to visitors!” Her eyes began to water.

"Because this is not the right time," Cindy finally decided after a moment's thought. "Besides, I am pretty sure that Neza already visited you." She shrugged apologetically. "I checked the logs. You will be well treated, Jane. We just have to solve this mystery."

“Keeping me from the woman I love while she’s in danger isn’t treating me well, Cindy!” Eyes wet but anger welling she punched the forcefield. “You never gave her a chance! You never gave me a chance, for that matter!”

"I wish I knew what you meant by that, Jane. I really do," Cindy told Jane in a sad voice. "Vivyra is in no danger, I can assure you of that. Now, I should be leaving. We're getting closer to Vivyra's home and I need to keep apprised of that. I hope you understand, if not now, some day.”

Jane fell to her knees and began sobbing. “Please let me see her, Captain. Every part of me is screaming to see her. I’m being torn apart. Please. You can even supervise if you want. I don’t need to be alone with her. I just need to see her. Please.” More tears rolled down her cheeks.

"Look at yourself, Jane. This is not love. This is obsession." She shook her head. "Maybe even addiction." She sighed and threw her hair behind her shoulders. "I wish I knew which. If you were in your right mind, I know that you would be able to tell me the difference."

Jane said nothing. She fell backwards onto her bum, moved to put her back against the wall, and hugged her knees. Tears flowed freely, and “Vivyra” was the only word that made its way out of her lips.

Cindy promised, "I will be back tomorrow, Jane. Hopefully you will feel better then." With that, Cindy turned and left the brig.
