Mission 2 - Love ORION Mistaken
Location: Captain's Office
Timeline: 2261.191 1230
After getting a full night sleep after the affairs of the last day or two, Cindy was definitely feeling in better spirits. Sure, she had a million reports to deal with and she knew that her yeoman would eventually be around to remind her of them but she needed to take care of a few matters first. One of them was a serious discussion with Ensign Neza Glenn. Having already summoned her to her office, she waited for the Ensign to arrive.
Having been working on a few random repairs on the sensor grid, Neza was surprised when she was summoned by Cindy. It had to be something official-like, right? An ensign never got summoned unless it was serious. Stepping up to the door of the captain’s office, she pressed the chime and waited until she could come in before doing so.
Cindy cheerfully told the person ringing her chime to come in.
Stepping inside once she was told to, Neza wasn’t sure if the tone of voice meant anything or not. It didn’t seem angry, so that was a plus, right?
Once Neza was in, Cindy did not look up from her computer or PADD. She merely instructed Neza to have a seat. Firmly looking at her computer, Cindy said, "Ensign, I have problem. It is a personal problem and it involves you."
Taking the indicated seat, Neza smoothed down her uniform dress and bit her lip. “A problem involving me? A personal one?” She had no idea what personal problem there could be.
"Yes, Ensign," Cindy formally addressed Neza. "A serious problem. I can't have an Ensign being my Chief Science Officer. I'm sure that you can understand that is generally unheard of and not appropriate. An ensign would hardly be respected by those she sought to command. So, I have put in a request for someone of higher rank."
“I um..oh..” Neza sighed and looked down. “Right, I completely understand. You’re right, an ensign as department head is unheard of.”
"The funny thing is that I would swear we had a Junior Grade Lieutenant running the department when we left." She got up and shrugged. "Perhaps it was a last minute change. I know we had a few, though I suspect you know more of that, than I."
Neza glanced up. “I thought that too but found that all of my stuff was in the chief office so...”. She shrugged slightly. “All of the missing people..well, feeling like there are missing people..is odd.” She was still confused with this meeting though, if she was going to be replaced, she just needed to be replaced so she could move her things from the office.
"Anyways," Cindy said with a smile, her eyes dancing, "I thought you should know of my decision," as she got closer to Neza.
“Ma’am?” Neza didn’t move back any when Cindy got closer, but was starting to get more nervous than anything else.
Cindy got up to Neza's collar and placed the new junior grade lieutenant band on it. "Lieutenant Glenn, you're to report to Legacy as the new Chief of Science." Cindy beamed, not believing she kept herself together this long. "Now, I believe my problem is solved, Neza. What do you think?"
Eyes going wide, Neza thought it was a joke to start. But finally a smile crossed her face. “Thank you! I..think you’re right, this solves the problem,” she said with a smirk. She still wasn’t sure she believed it.
"Did I worry you?" Cindy asked, giggling. "I hope that I did not stress you too much. I just wanted to have a little fun, Neza. I hope you can appreciate that."
“I was worried. I thought I was in some type of trouble when you said a personal problem. This was not what I was expecting. Stress me out though? No, not so much. Just thought I’d have to give up the office, and I’m rather fond of it.” Neza grinned.
"Damn it!" Cindy exclaimed, laughing. "I guess I just don't have it in me to be terribly mean, even if I'm trying to fake it. Ah, well. It was worth it to see you get sheepish. But seriously, you know science is my pet department. You had better continue doing it well."
Neza laughed, “I’m sure you can be mean if you really wanted to be, Cindy. But I will do my best to do the department proud. I just hope that I have it in me.”
"You'd better have it in you, Neza. If you don't, I'll have to take it back over," Cindy said seriously. "And I do love science!" She paused before continuing, "You did well with the Romulans. Just have confidence in yourself and keep getting better. OK?"
“I will do my best, I promise. Besides, you’re in command now, you can’t take over science,” Neza said with a smirk.
"Don't bet on it," Cindy replied seriously before continuing in a much lighter and frivolous tone, "I would just get a lot less sleep."
Neza laughed. “Commanding officers get sleep?” She couldn’t help it and shook her head. “Don’t worry, I won’t let you down.”
