368 words; about a 2 minute read

Mission: Mission -1 - Prologue Posts
Location: Somewhere in San Francisco
Timeline: 2261.181 2150

Dim lighting had come through the tiny apartment, and a butt naked Cole Dering walked from the hallway into the kitchen area, scratching a butt cheek as he opened up the refrigerator door. Making a decision, he poured himself some juice and then grabbed a collectible old fashion paper comic book off the counter on the way as he headed back out of the room. He stopped right on the other side of the entryway and took a drink of his juice as he read over the comic book cover, when he heard the communication panel on his desk, notifying him that he had a message that just came in.

He looked over towards the noise and started walking that way when he caught sight of his open-shaded window, and the smiling old lady that was now waving at him from a window of the building next door. Aw, crap... he thought while quickly ducking and nearly spilling his juice, not again, and chastised himself for giving her another show.

Carefully, he'd placed his drink aside and keeping himself low, made it over to the window, where he reached up and pulled down its shade.

Cole released a breath and then moved to slip into the nearby desk chair to open up his messages. And there it was, the one he'd been waiting for, his orders for his next assignment.

“About time,” he said out loud, leaning back in his chair to stare at the screen. Having gone through the academy command school, and then told to wait, teaching at the medical academy while he did, had felt like eternity.

So he opened the message, and a Cheshire smile spread across his handsome face as he read what it said. He was to report in as the chief medical officer of the USS Legacy. “I did it, dad.” Yeah, I told you I would.

He sent a confirmation on the message and then started placing a call through his computer, knowing what he'd get from the old man for waking him up past his bedtime again. But, as usual, it would be worth it, and he just didn't care.

~~~End~~~
