Mission 2 - Love ORION Mistaken
Location: Science Lab and Mess
Vivyra watched as Jane left for work. She wanted to come with but was told she could not. That gave her a small pout. Dressing in the shorts that Jane had made for her, she sauntered around her own quarters and debated what she would do. She could not understand why she would not be permitted in the lounge. She liked people. And who knew? Maybe she would meet a male to couple with. She had yet to do that!
Realizing she was running a little behind, but also knowing she had to wait for Jane to leave the quarters before arriving, Neza let out a heavy sigh as she made sure the science bridge officer change had gone through okay. Once verifying the officer was there and good to go, she made her way towards Jane and Vivyra's quarters. She'd have to make sure that she worked on setting them up with separate quarters too, a task she wasn't going to like.
Stepping up to the doorway, she pressed the chime, waiting.
Vivyra answered the door, more than a little pleased that she had a visitor. Enthusiastically, she told Neza, "Hi! So good to see you again!"
"And you as well, Vivyra, any chance that I can come in?"
"Please!" Vivyra replied, allowing Neza in. "I love company. I really want to meet and see more people. I'm so glad that you came for a visit."
Stepping inside, Neza glanced around for a moment before smiling a little. "Actually, it's more than a visit. You get to spend some time with me for a little while."
Vivyra jumped with joy and clapped her hands! "That's wonderful! I have wanted to spend more time with you, well, with anyone, really! Sometimes I just feel like a trapped animal. I want to go to the lounge and meet so many more people. Can we do that?"
"I was hoping actually we could go off to my lab. Just curious about a few things, and I'm a scientist anyways. Up for that?"
"Your lab?" Vivyra asked, her tone belying her disappointed opinion. "What's there?"
Neza gave a small shrug, "Things to look over, experiment with. Likely things you won't find anywhere else on the ship."
The disinterested tone in Vivyra's voice was unmistakable. "Like what?"
"Anything you want to experiment with? I'm sure I can come up with something that'll interest you."
"Science was not one of my stronger subjects," she admitted. "However, I will leave it to you to find something that interests me. I am open for new experiences," she told Neza flirtatiously.
Neza shrugged. "Well, then maybe we can find out more about you. I must say, that as a scientist, I'm very interested." She caught the flirtatious voice, but it didn't hit her, at least not in that moment.
"Find out more about me?" Vivyra asked confused. "What's to discover? I'm just an ordinary Orion girl."
Nodding towards the door, Neza sighed, "I've honestly never even talked with an Orion at length either, and it'd just be nice to get to know you."
The Orion relaxed some and followed Neza out the VIP quarter's door. She smiled at Neza and asked, "What would you like to know? There's not a lot to tell."
Heading to the turbo lift and telling it to go towards her lab, Neza leaned against the wall of the turbo lift and shrugged. "Honestly? Anything. Bit of your history, things about Orions that humans may not know?"
"How would I know what that is?" Vivyra asked confused. "I mean, I'm just your ordinary Orion girl, being made ready for an owner."
"See? Things like that. Is that what ordinary Orion girls do, make themselves ready for an owner?" Neza frowned, "Do you not get to go out and have your own life?"
"Own life?" Vivyra asked even more confused. "I mean, we are all trained in some way. I have been trained nearly since birth in numerous techniques. Would you like me to teach you?"
The turbo lift stopped and Neza nodded down the corridor. "Trained...trained for what?"
"Well," Vivyra started. "We get education in all the basics, like reading, writing, dance, how to please your owner...."
"They train you on that last one? That...it's something that I would think should just come naturally."
"How could it?" Vivyra asked in a way that one might question someone that said the color red was blue. "Each owner has their own personalities, desires, and appetites. The best that we can do is be prepared in numerous techniques and skills so that we can be as ready as possible for when we are sold."
Neza simply shook her head as they got closer to her lab. "True, but for most, we just learn from experience, not training."
"That seems really, um, inefficient. I mean, with nobody to train you, how could you possibly learn so many interesting things? I mean, how could anyone become an expert?"
Letting the door to her lab open, Neza smiled softly, "There are things that many just don't want to be experts in. Part of being in a relationship is learning, not just going into it and knowing what to do in an instant."
"Bec was trying to teach me about relationships. She said it was something like owning each other. I don't get it."
Neza shook her head as they stepped inside. "Not really. Just..staying loyal to that one person when it comes to things that come with a relationship. Like, if I were in a relationship, I wouldn't own them and they wouldn't own me. Just like with you and Jane, you don't own each other."
"No?" Vivyra asked confused. "Then, I am not bound to her?" The Orion tilted her head trying to make sense of Neza's words.
"Depends on what you mean by bound, Vivyra. Most of the time, in relationships, that means you are...how should I put this..." Neza nodded to a seat so Vivyra could sit as she thought. "It means that any physical relationships, such as sexual, are just between the two of you. But, that is something you two would need to discuss."
"So, unless it is discussed, there's no rules," Vivyra decided. "I see." She sat down and crossed her legs deliberately and sensuously.
"That...isn't what I meant." Neza rubbed her forehead. "I'm not really the best on to ask about relationships. But...I don't think Jane would want you with anyone else besides her."
"But, if I'm not owned...." Vivyra allowed her voice to trail off, somewhat confused.
Neza sighed softly, "I..don't really know how to explain it any differently. It is hard to explain in simpler terms."
Vivyra looked around. "So, what exactly are we going to do here?" she inquired as she looked around the lab and the people who were working along with Neza.
Watching a few of the others, Neza gave a small shrug. "Well, how about this. Breakfast first? I know I haven't eaten."
"Neither have I, come to think of it!" Vivyra exclaimed happily. "I'm sure that the mess will give plenty of opportunities to meet new people, too!"
"Then, let us go and get some breakfast. I don't think a cup of coffee counts as a meal."
Vivyra practically bounced off the chair enthusiastically. "I wonder what they are serving today! I really like those pancake things. I'm not sure why they are called that, though. Maybe a donut?"
Neza shrugged and led Vivyra out, "If they do have them, have your fill of them. Those do sound good actually."
The Orion squealed gleefully as she headed to the mess. Once there, she was delighted to fill her plate with donuts and pancakes, taking a seat at a table and waving to a few crew members as she nibbled on her food.
Just watching, Neza smirked and shook her head. Why was Cindy worrying about this? She did catch a few eyes lingering on Vivyra, but would deal with that if it got too bad.
Vivyra offered, "Would you like a donut? Or pancake? I have plenty to share!"
Pointing to her own plate that she brought over, Neza shook her head, "No, it is okay, but thank you. I take it you didn't get to taste pancakes or donuts before being on this ship."
"Oh, gosh, no! These foods that you have here are absolutely delicious! I mean, I was taught to cook, but nothing like this.... I'm sure that you understand why we did not concentrate on cooking too much...."
"Maybe you should see if the computer can tell you more about cooking then. Especially these things!"
The Orion wrinkled her nose. "Oh, no. I much prefer meeting all the people here. Everyone is so friendly! Perhaps when someone owns me, I will have more time to learn to cook these things."
Neza let out a heavy sigh, "You..you don't have to be owned at all if you don't want to, Vivyra."
"Then what would I do?" Vivyra asked incredulously, her black eyes staring into Neza's determinedly.
"Anything that you want to. You would be able to be your own person, make your own decisions day to day."
The Orion laughed prettily at that. "You think that I am someone else? Or that I do not make decisions? You're a very silly person!"
Neza smiled, "I mean, not having to answer to anyone. You do what you want."
"But I do what I want already. I would even when I'm owned." Vivyra's eyes seemed amused by Neza.
"I..." Neza rubbed her head, "What are things you've been told you can't do when you are owned."
"I've never been owned," she replied shrugging. "I do not believe that we're re-sold often. I could be wrong. Even so, I would think that I could get whatever I wanted or needed. Just because I'm owned does not mean I could not manipulate things to my desire. Do you think that I am stupid?"
Neza sighed, "I guess I don't know as much about what happens when you are 'owned' as I thought. In Earth history, owned means you don't get to make any of your own decisions and you serve whoever owned you no matter what."
Vivyra laughed. "They must not have been very good slaves. After all, one should be able to convince their owner to do anything that a slave wants. Did they not dance for their owners? Just because an owner might think it is their idea does not mean that the slave was not the one that wanted it." She laughed again and then stuffed a pancake in her mouth.
"Ah, that is Earth history, they were owned and they were slaves, and it meant the same thing. At least, that's the way it seemed."
The Orion looked at Neza like she had two heads. "You have some really strange ideas."
"Just what I was taught. I don't like the idea of slaves, but I also don't like the idea of being owned either."
"What do you like, then?" Vivyra prompted.
Raising an eyebrow, Neza shrugged slightly and took a bite of food. "Honestly? I don't really know for sure. Why do you ask?"
"Well, you seem to know what you don't like. Would that not imply that you would know what you do like?" Vivyra asked with a shrug.
"Besides science? I guess I'm curious what do I like in what way? The subject of it I mean."
Vivyra tilted her head, some confusion setting in. "Any way, I think."
Neza shook her head, "Failed relationships, so I guess I really don't know what I like. Food? Really anything." Her mind wandered for a moment and she found herself thinking of relationships that shouldn't be remembered, that never existed.
"So, you like nothing and everything?" The Orion's eyes crossed confused.
"I'm a strange person. Not the best to talk to about all that." Neza shook her head, "Sorry, caught up in some memories..I think they are memories? Just..sorry."
"Why is it best not talk about things?" She blinked several times, confused.
Neza pushed her food away and looked to Vivyra, "It isn't that. Some things have happened on the ship that, well, some of us have memories of things that didn't actually happen, like people are missing. Me? I feel like I lost two people that I fell in love with. But, per the computer, they never existed, at least not on this ship."
Vivyra's eyes enlarged. "Are you certain that you should not see Jane? I bet she could figure this out for you. It doesn't sound healthy."
"It'll be alright, Vivyra." Neza said, and was about to say something else, but heard the comms go off, "Science labs to Glenn, you'd better get down here, ma'am."
That was all she heard before the comms cut. With a heavy sigh, she shook her head, "I don't really want to leave you here alone but that sounded urgent, will you be okay?"
"Will I be OK?" she asked with a laugh. "I'm sure that I'm bound to find something to occupy my time." She opened her right arm indicating the mess full of people. "Do whatever it is that you need to do. I should be around here somewhere."
"What's what I am worried about, but just...stay here. I'll be back." With that, Neza headed off, wondering what her teams couldn't handle on their own.
Vivyra gave Neza a pleasant little wave and watched Neza walk off.
