Personality & Traits
General Overview | A descendant of Old British nobility, he was raised in a similar manner. Highly gifted from a very young age, he developed an ego as a child to go along with his gifts. Getting the best from a young age also gave him a sense of entitlement, knowing that he was treated as more privileged than others due to an inherited station, even though class-based discrimination wasn't allowed by Federation law. As the son of an earl, he took the honorary title of Viscount at his father's insistence, further cementing a certain sense of superiority as a child. As he got older, that sense faded but was never entirely lost. His sister highly disapproved of his retaining a noble rank, saying that such things didn't even matter anymore so there was no point in it. His parents insisted, so he kept the title but almost never used it unless he deemed it necessary. As Highly focused, detail-oriented, and collected, he has little patience for those who he thinks of as whimsical or who attempt to stray from the task at hand, though he shows no outside sign of his opinion. The only thing he shows open disdain for is religions of all stripes, thinking them as fairy tales designed to keep people in line. |
|
Strengths, Weaknesses, and Quirks | While possessing considerable mental fortitude, he does less well in more physical pursuits while still being skilled on horseback. Despite this, he has no appreciable talent in sports of any kind, being a below-average fencer and soured to polo due to a broken arm after falling from his horse. He appreciates mental pursuits rather than physical ones. Spending too much time in front of books and papers had caused a slight case of myopia when he was younger and has since been corrected, and developed an idle habit of chewing on the stems of his glasses. While no longer wearing glasses, he will occasionally do so with other objects like pens, pencils, and toothpicks. |
|
Ambitions | He is comfortable in his present position, but he has debated whether he would like a captaincy of his own one day or become a full-time researcher at a prestigious institute. | |
Hobbies, Interests, Likes, and Dislikes | An avid reader, he spent a great deal of time in the family library when at home and the libraries at his various schools, especially at Cambridge. His love of music is another reason why he does his best to stay in touch with his sister, who has been in the Royal Academy of Music since she was four years old and his a highly skilled musician. His sister is very dear to him and he keeps several memories of their misadventures as children. She was a student at the Royal Academy of Music since age four and he, before being posted to the Legacy, made it a point to attend every one of her performances wherever it was to be held. He was very prideful that he had never missed a single one, now matter the circumstances. |

Defining Quotes and/or Character Beliefs | "Ridicule is the tribute paid to the genius by the mediocrities." - Oscar Wilde "As a scientist, I am hostile to fundamentalist religion because it actively debauches the scientific enterprise. It teaches us not to change our minds, and not to want to know exciting things that are available to be known. It subverts science and saps the intellect." - Richard Dawkins |
