Defining Quotes and/or Character Beliefs -

Personal History Luke was born on Earth. He was an only child. That meant that Luke’s parents treated their boy as if he were the most important being in the universe. Nothing ever lacked in his life, whatever he would wish for, he would get. His parents felt that by doing this they would make up for the times they weren’t at home, and they almost never were.
His father was an overseer at the Utopia Planetia Fleet Yards, he would spent most of the week near or on the Red Planet. His mother was a diplomat, always off to a distant world, Luke never really knew what she did.

Living in luxury, having everything he ever wanted at his disposal, one would think that Luke would be a spoiled brat. Nothing could be further from the truth. Sure enough, he had anything he ever wanted, in the material sense. But he had never felt a mother’s love, or knew what it was to have a dad who taught him how to hotwire a transport. The concept of parents was confusing to him. His schoolmates’ parents were around, involved in the lives of their offspring. The fact that Luke’s weren’t was confusing to him, sometimes he felt a sadness that he couldn’t quite explain. Absentee parents meant that it was usually just him and the maids, which didn’t leave much for him to do in the house. So he took up reading. His parents were well-read and kept an extensive library at home filled with old-fashioned books. Luke read them all, his favourites were Fantasy and Sci-Fi books. This fostered within him a desire to go out into space and explore the galaxy, meeting new species and fighting alien baddies.

After graduating from high school he applied for Starfleet Academy. Because he was doing well, he was asked to join the Starfleet Academy Exchange Program between Vulcan and Earth students in 2256. He was lucky to have gotten the chance when he did, because a year later the Planet Vulcan was destroyed by the Romulan Nero. His group of exchange students are among the last Earth students to have set foot on Vulcan. The group that went after him all perished in the disaster, including most of the Vulcan friends Luke had made the year before.

The news of the destruction of Vulcan, the loss of his Vulcan friends and fellow cadets struck him hard. However, all his reading had instilled within him a thorough respect and recognition of the benefits of diplomacy and dialogue, so unlike so many of his friends and fellow cadets, he was not out for revenge. Instead he wanted to help people feel safe and protected.

Soon after he graduated from Starfleet Academy destined to become a Security Officer. His first posting was on the USS Nehru. Coming fresh out of the academy he was tasked with bridge duty during the night shift. A few months later he was transferred to the USS Jinnah. During an away mission they were ambushed by Orion pirates and Luke got a chance to put all Starfleet combat training to good use. He stunned one Orion and subdued another, while the rest of the team dealt with the other pirates. His commanding officer commended him afterwards for handling the situation without having to resort to lethal force and was promoted to Lieutenant Junior Grade. A year later he was transferred to the USS Rahman. By this time Luke wondered if the universe was playing a trick on him by putting him on starships named after the founding fathers of India, Pakistan and Bangladesh. If anything, it would at least make for a good story to tell his shipmates. His posting there lasted only a few months before being transferred again to New Delhi, on Earth, this time to serve as a personal bodyguard for India’s chief minister, who was wont to take a lot of interplanetary trips throughout the Federation. It was therefore felt that a bodyguard with a lot of proven experience in outer space would be a better fit than a regular bodyguard that had never been outside the solar system. At this point Luke just rolled his eyes and shrugged at the universe’s sense of humour. He did thoroughly enjoy the posting at the Delhi secretariat. He got plenty of shore duty allowing him to explore the beautiful but incredibly hot city of New Delhi, and when accompanying the Chief Minister on her trips he’d got to see many different worlds and their political elites. Luke was fascinated.

However, a bodyguard didn’t leave much room for personal advancement, and after calling in a few favours he was assigned to the USS Legacy to take a position as the new Assistant Chief of Security there.
