Personality & Traits

General Overview ** Intelligent and well-mannered, speaks with a decided, upper class British accent. Grayson is unfailingly polite in social settings which means you won't general know what he's thinking unless he chooses to share.
** Independent and self-reliant. Comes to his own decisions and won't let others make the hard calls about how his life should go for him. Very comfortable on his own and in his own skin.
** Altruistic. He's the type to go with out if he sees that someone else needs what he has more than he does.
** Perceptive and intuitive. While he may not tell you what he's thinking, he's good at figuring people out. He understands people and their motivations. He gets it quickly.
** Honest and honorable. He has a moral code that he lives by - he's not the type to beat a confession out of someone though he may try manipulation and pretense. Not the guy to ask 'does this dress make me look fat' though he may try to deflect the question rather than hurt someone unnecessarily.
** Stubborn and takes his losses to heart. Being in security means that his mistakes can cost lives. And he feels those losses deeply. He really hates being pushed down a path he doesn't want to travel. The last one who tried that was his father and they've been estranged every since.
** Something of an Adrenalin junkie. likes to try new things and isn't put off by the danger.
** Likes to be doing. Doesn't generally sit still for long being bored.
Strengths, Weaknesses, and Quirks Strengths:
- Smart, an out-of-the-box thinker whose not afraid to get his hands dirty. Politics mean very little to him and he'll do the menial task without complaint if that's what it takes to get things moving.
- Practically fearless. If he's afraid of something, he'll push against it until he's no longer afraid.
- Somewhat self-contained. Polite and well-mannered, not one to show his hand easily.
- Perceptive/intuitive. Good at figuring people out.
- Gymnast and mixed martial artist. Very good in hand-to-hand combat.
- Patient. Would make a good sniper and has had the training.
- Marksman in small and large weapons.

Weaknesses:
- Somewhat self-contained. He can be slow to open up about what's bothering him.
- Science was always his weakest subject. So while he doesn't know, he is interested in learning about it. Just don't assume he gets it immediately.
- Feels the mistakes and losses deeply. It matters to him that he gets it right. People's lives may depend upon it. Trusts that the Captain knows what she's doing and respects the chain of command. Should that trust be broken, it would call many things into questions.

Quirks:
- Can't sleep if someone is watching him.
- Non-verbal before his first cup of coffee.
Hobbies, Interests, Likes, and Dislikes Hobbies:
- Gymnastics
- Mixed Martial Arts
- Reading (non-fiction mostly but he does like a good mystery)
- Horseback riding
- Camping (especially extreme camping)
- Astronomy
- Spending time with friends

Interests:
- Exploration
- Sports with an edge of danger attached. Loves to try new ones.

Likes:
- Good food - especially if he doesn't have to cook
- Music, theater, live performances
- Dancing ... he took a couple of ballroom dance classes back in the day so he'd know the basics and found he enjoyed it.

Dislikes:
- People who expect conversation before coffee. I mean, really.
- Cooking unless, you know, you like burnt, poisonous meals

Medical profile Owing to his active lifestyle, Grayson experienced a number of injuries including several broken bones. When the family moved from London to Colorado, he was sick for nearly a week (fever, weight loss, lethargy) that was attributed to the change in environment. He bounced back quickly but then, Grayson generally does.

Personal History While born in London, the family moved when Grayson was ten to a complex in the Colorado mountains to accommodate his father's career. Roderick Hawk is a renown trainer of gymnasts and it was assumed, practically from the moment of his birth, that Grayson (and a few years later, his sister, Elizabeth) would become gymnasts as well. Without the mitigating influence of his mother, both children were raised in the only way that Roderick knew - through disciplined, rigorous, relentless training.

When the siblings began to compete, it became clear that while Grayson was good, he would never perform at the level his father demanded and it saddened his father to realize that it wasn't a lack of talent on Grayson's part but rather, his disinterest. On the other hand, Grayson's sister, Elizabeth, was everything her Daddy could hope for in a gymnast. Possessed of a mild temperament, Elizabeth seldom went against her father's orders and the two got along well.

Grayson, on the other hand, being considerably more independent and strong-willed, began actively resisting his father's dictates and the two clashed often. Remarkably, as his relationship with his father deteriorated, his relationship with his sister remained strong. For a brief time, Elizabeth tried to be the bridge between father and son but ultimately gave up when she realized that just how intractable her father could be.

Grayson found a best friend, James McNeil, and started spending more and more of his free time over at the McNeil ranch. James McNeil, Sr. was an avid, amateur astronomer; through him, Grayson became interested in astronomy and in space. Family dinners at the McNeil house were long and filled with lively debate and discussion on a number of topics. Grayson became a regular visitor at the table.

Grayson, during his school years at McAuliffe, spent many long, happy hours camping in the mountains, riding horses, and learning how to box (though his interest would later shift to mixed martial arts). He tried many things in those years and discovered along the way that he liked to sing. He participated in school plays and sang in choir. Elizabeth attended whenever she wasn't competing as did the McNeil family who became his 'official' cheering section.

His interests were wide-ranging and it wasn't until he turned 15, a year from graduating, that he turned more serious and realized just what he wanted to do with his life. Starfleet Academy and, if he was lucky, a career out there.
